Entry from: Phanom, Thailand Entry Title: "Welcome to the Jungle" Entry: "From Ao Nang, we endured another minibus adventure, because that was the only way to get to Khao Sok National Park. We were told by the various operators that the bus would take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to get to Khao Sok. When you figure in the 1-hour stop at their tourist machine/bus station, it was closer to 4. We arrived to a rousing Thai welcome. The bus brought us to a hotel near the park. We got out to check the rooms and asked if they had air conditioning. Of course they said yes, but when we got there, no. The A/C unit must have vanished on the way up the stairs to the (bungalows on stilts!) room. We got back in the van to our driver who seemed very nervous that we didn't stay. He brought us to the place across the street. We asked him if there were any other hotels closer to the park entrance. He said no. We didn't believe him, go figure. We had him just bring us to the park entrance. It very much pained him to do so and he got very grumpy very quickly. When we got to the park entrance, there were three hotels right there! Imagine that....poor little guy didn't get that commission from his buddies. Shame. When we got out of the bus, we immediately came to the realization that we were alone. All alone. Other ...
