Is This Why Your Vagina Smells?

Wanda The Fish. That was the most humiliating name any chick could get labeled at my middle school. Getting chastised as "Wanda" simply meant that your vagina reeked of "Tuna Of The Sea".

Understandably, girls, myself included, would go to extensive lengths to avoid this dehumanizing stigma.

So what do you do when your stinky midsection betrays an otherwise healthy vagina? The first step is to actually make sure that your vagina is in tip-top shape.

What's a Vagina Supposed to Smell Like?

Throughout your menstrual cycle, it's normal to have a variety of vaginal discharges. Vaginal discharge can take the form of the non-fertile, viscous- and sticky-type discharge to the very fertile, slippery- and clear-type discharge that occurs close to menstruation.

Abnormal discharges are accompanied by itchiness, raunchy smells, and/ or gray-, yellow- or green-colored discharges.

The second step to restoring your vagina to health involves to ruling out the possibility of having vaginal conditions like bacterial vaginosis, a yeast infection or trichomonas vaginitis.

Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis (BV), while more common than yeast infections, doesn't get much attention in the media.

The cause of bacterial vaginosis remains unclear but this condition is linked to sexual activity and douching. According to a University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) study, a sexually transmitted virus that infects vaginal lactobacilli may cause bacterial vaginosis.

Vaginal lactobacilli are required to maintain a healthy pH and bacterial balance within the vagina. Once this balance is disrupted by a virus, the vagina no longer has a protective barrier and is more susceptible to infection.

In the 1999 UIC study, Sylvia Pavlova, senior research specialist, and Lin Tao, associate professor of oral biology, found that viruses may cause bacterial vaginosis. Moreover bacterial vaginosis could be sexually transmitted.

If untreated, bacterial vaginosis can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal pregnancy, or, pre-term labor if you are pregnant.

Only your doctor can diagnose bacterial vaginosis. Your doctor would prescribe oral antibiotics or antibiotic vaginal inserts to treat bacterial vaginosis.

What to look and smell for:

Increased vaginal discharge. A fishy vaginal odor and white or gray milk-like discharge.

Yeast infection

If you've used antibiotics, been pregnant, have diabetes, or wear tight clothing, chances are you've experienced an overgrowth of vaginal yeast. Overgrowth of the yeast Candida albicans is largely blamed for causing yeast infections.

Most women find their yeast infection treatment in over-the-counter preparations at drug stores. Other times you can find yeast infection relief by moderating your sugar intake and supplementing your diet with more foods that contain Lactobacillus (L.).

Dr. Tori Hudson, who serves a medical director of A Woman's Time, recommends that you eat foods that contain at least three of the following forms of Lactobacillus when naturally treating a yeast infection: L. acidophilus, L. fermentum. L. plantarum, L bulgaricus, L. casei, or L. rhamnosus.

While a research war still ranges over the effectiveness of Lactobacillus against combating yeast infections, women still notice improvements with their vaginal infections after supplementing their diet with this probiotic.

What to look and smell for:

Symptoms include a white cottage cheese-like discharge, itching, redness, and irritation.

Trichomonas vaginitis

Trichomonas vaginitis comes in as the third leading cause of vaginal infections.

Commonly called "hooker", I mean "trick", trichomonas vaginitis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a tiny single-celled parasite. Like bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas vaginitis can be transmitted through intercourse.

Your doctor would have to test you to diagnose trichomonas vaginitis. She will prescribe antibiotics as a treatment.

What to look and smell for:

Increased amount of vaginal discharge. Possible itching. Itching and redness accompanied by a yellow-green discharge.

You know what the ironic thing about this smelly vagina business is?

It is that if you get bacterial vaginosis or trichomonas vaginitis, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics, but after using the antibiotics, your chances of getting a vaginal yeast infection shoot up. Who designed this health scenario anyway?

Before you curse, Wanda, let me offer you these tips for vaginal health to use at you own discretion:

1. The vagina needs to breathe, so let it. Wear pantyhose less often. Use knee-highs or thigh-highs instead.
   


2. Wear cotton underwear instead of synthetic underwear.
   


3. Use condoms during sex. Even though the theory that sex can cause a vaginal infection remains contested, use a condom is a preventative until the infection gone.
   


4. Add one teaspoon of boric acid or a half-cup of hydrogen peroxide to two quarts of warm water. (For the boric acid to mix well you need to make sure the water is warm). Use the boric acid or hydrogen peroxide douche for two weeks and stop. The boric acid and hydrogen peroxide should increase the amount of lactic acid within the vagina. This increased amount of lactic acid within the vaginal helps restore the proper bacterial balance within the vaginal and reduces the chances of re-infection.
   


5. Eat less sugar so that you don't feed the yeast.
   


6. See a doctor if you still have doubts. The Mayo Clinic Women's "HealthSource" newsletter has cautioned women against hastily self-diagnosing vaginal problems and labeling every smelly vagina issue as a "yeast infection". This may not allows be the case.

The Best Way to Remove Dog Tear Stains

Dog tear stains will typically occur in smaller dogs and can be an issue to handle. Different breeds of dogs will suffer from variety of similar yet unique problems which are mainly caused by excessive build up of tears that block the tear ducts. This build up causes the dark colors under the eyes. Maltese tear staining is very common, as are poodle tear stains.

The collection of these tears on the hair around the eyes leads to clumps of bacteria and hair. This is not only a cosmetic issue, but it can also lead to health problems as yeast forms causing infections. The interesting thing is that the fur around a dogs eyes functions as a barrier around the eyes and prevents tears from flowing inwards. Once build up occurs a bridge, in essence, is formed allowing these tears to flow into areas where they should not. Therefore the hair around the eyes needs to receive regular grooming and cleaning. Once inside, you will meet two waves of Fencing Knights and Industrialists. Then you will encounter three mechanical obstacles in immediate succession. The first obstacle is a row of cannons incessantly firing acid balls at you. Your safest bet is to block these projectiles with your shield (hold ) as you slowly advance forward and up past them. Up a ramp, the second obstacle is a narrow path with large weights on chains that rhythmically rise and fall in an attempt to smash you. Timing through this is fairly easy; quickly step underneath the next weight as it rises, and repeat. You won't get caught under the previous weight if you always move at your first opportunity. The third obstacle is a row of electric barriers that rhythmically flicker on and off. You have room between each barrier to stand safely, so take your time advancing through each barrier one at a time. After passing the mechanical obstacles, you are drawn onto a moving elevator. If you are trying to decide upon keeping a hermit crab as pet, then you must know the answer to the question 'do hermit crabs shed'. In fact, shedding or molting is such an integral part of a these crab's existence, that it will be completely justified to state that successive molting is actually the key life cycle process of the these creatures. All the other aspects of a crab's life are dependent on the molting pattern of the creature. The process of molting itself again depends on several factors like the species, age and size of these crabs. During molting, these creatures shed their existing exoskeleton and grow on themselves a newer and slightly bigger exoskeleton.

The molting patterns of the land and marine hermit crabs are distinct and a fair knowledge of both the molting patterns is essential for the safe keep of your hermit crab pet. In case of the marine crabs, molting is a fast process and the marine crabs shed their exoskeleton in a couple of minutes. However, for the land crabs, the process of molting is a long-term process and it may even require a couple of months for a large land crab to molt completely. During molting, the land crab not only grows a new exoskeleton, but also regenerates any lost body parts, that might have shed due to stress.

Thus, we find there are two different aspects to the question 'do hermit crabs shed'. The first aspect is shedding of the body parts (limbs, claws) as a response to stress and the second aspect is molting or shedding an exoskeleton, during when the creature actually regenerates his lost body parts. It is not necessary that the creature has to shed his body parts; if proper care is taken then the creature will not shed the body parts at all. However, molting is a mandatory process of growth for these creatures, which occurs after varied intervals. Molting is seen more frequently in the smaller hermit crabs; whereas, the bigger crabs shed less frequently. The kid crabs shed even twice or thrice a year and for the adults, one molting a year is the general schedule.

The owner must be able to identify the early symptoms of molting. This is necessary because there is a need for securing the privacy of the little creature. The hermits become highly vulnerable to many kinds of disturbances during molting and any disturbance can actually stimulate the creature to stop molting mid way and choose death over life. The early signs of molting observed in these creatures are formation of an oil sac in the underbelly region, a ruffled antennae, a whitish coat over the eyes, lethargical behavior, inclination to dig and an increased appetite. When these signs appear, and you are sure that the creature is in the very initial stages of molting, then the crab keeper must gently transfer the molting crab to an isolation tank. If the molting is in advanced stage then do not touch the creature, instead, you should remove the other crabs from the enclosure then. Alternately, you can also set up a compact isolation barrier around the molting crab's space. The barrier should be firmly placed and unclimbable to other hermit crabs.

During molting these creatures should also be supplied with a supply of dechlorinated freshwater and carotenoid (carrots) and calcium rich food. The molting land crabs eat very rarely during molting and they do so during the night. The presence of carotenoid can also be provided by crushing flower petals that contain the pigment to the diet of the creature.

It is very necessary that the new crab owner is conscious about all the different aspects of the question 'do hermit crabs shed' before adopting a one of these crabs for the home.

Itchy Scratching Dog - Pollen

The things that cause human asthma are a common cause of scratching in dogs. Pollen, dust mites and household spores are often the cause of atopic dermatitis in dogs. These allergens cross your dog's skin barrier in the hairless regions such as the feet, the groin, the tummy and the arm pit. Dogs with atopic dermatitis have a deficient skin barrier with faulty ceramides. The skin loses moisture and allergens penetrate the skin initiating an allergic reaction.

Grass pollen is a common cause of atopic dermatitis as grasses are wind pollinated. Grass pollens are therefore very small so that they blow easily in the wind. Grass pollens blow in the wind and get everywhere making it almost impossible for atopic dogs to avoid them.

Tree pollens are much larger as many trees are insect pollinated and especially by bees. Tree pollens usually fall to the ground under trees and are a common cause of contact allergies which are predominantly on your dog's feet and ventral abdomen (tummy).

It has recently been proven that there are three different points of entry for pollen into the body which causes different antibody production depending on the route of entry of the pollen.

How to Choose the Right Pet Gate

Pet parents choose pet safety gates for their homes for a number of different reasons. It is often a change in a household that brings on the need for a pet gate. Did you just get a new puppy? Do you have a toddler that just learned to walk? Has you dog been barking at night in his crate and you're trying to give him a little more room to feel secure? The reasons can be as many as the pets using them, but several basic considerations need to be factored in.

Begin by considering the size of the opening that you need to put a gate in. Most regular gates will expand to fit an average size doorway inside your home, but measuring the spot first and checking the specifications on the gate is important. Often times, pet parents are trying to separate a larger area such as an archway, so width is important.

Are you trying to keep your toddler on one side and your pet pooch on the other? Keeping children away from pets when you want them separated can be an important reason for a pet safety gate. Make sure that any gate you purchase is safe for both children and pets, with no chance to accidentally get stuck in the gate. The gate needs to be tall enough so your toddler can't reach or climb over it. Your gate also needs to be strong enough that your puppy won't break through it! If your dog is a good jumper, you might want to consider a taller gate.

Tip - If your dog or your child can still get over a taller gate, consider using two gates, one on top of the other in the doorway. This makes it easier for you to enter and exit at times when your child or pet may not be ready to challenge it!

Most gates will either hold into place with pressure being applied from a lever being pushed down or will attach with hardware to the inside of the doorway. Be aware that once installed, these gates are a bit more permanent, and will need to be installed by drilling into the wood. Make sure that the area to install the gate will be strong enough to support it! Even the pressure point style can leave marks if they get tightened in too hard.

Tip- When choosing a gate at the top of a staircase, never use a pressure point style, as a child could possibly apply enough pressure to fall down the stairs. As well, never use any style gate that has a bar or ridge across the bottom, as this poses a tripping hazard at the top of the stairs. Use a gate made for a staircase!

Consider as well that using a pet gate can help train a puppy, by giving her enough space to run and play while not inside her training crate, but without having run of the rest of the house that is filled with potential puppy hazards. This can also reduce a dog's separation anxiety, because a closed door is more forbidding than an open space separated by a gate.

Travel Tip - Always bring your pet gate if you are bringing your pet. Not everyone wants Fido climbing on the coffee table, even if they love dogs too! Pet gates insure safety and sanity, and greatly increase your chances of being invited back!

Lastly, consider how you plan to move from room to room. When your pet gate is in place, will you or your family members be able to step over the gate, each time you cross? Remember that you do not want anyone getting hurt by falling over the gate while entering the room. The best solution is often to choose a pet safety barrier with a built in gate, so the outer frame stays mounted in the doorway, but the inner gate swings open for easy access. This style gate is a must for older folks or for those that may be less flexible than they once were!

There you have it. When choosing a pet gate, once you consider all the elements, the design, the location and the purpose, pick one that looks good as well. For however long you need it, it will be part of your home. You will likely open it, close it, bump yourself on it and maybe even fall over it, but there is no good reason that you have to dislike it! Before we discuss how to get rid of a skunk, it is important to note that they carry rabies and you should never approach them.

Prevention

As scavengers, skunks are likely to eat anything they come across; so, if they find food on your property, they are likely to return or even to make a home for themselves. As such, you need to take some time to ensure that garbage is sealed properly and that there are no sources of food in your yard. Never leave pet food outdoors as this will also attract skunks, and likely racoons and other creatures as well. Nut, berry, and fruit trees may also attract them, so be sure to walk your yard and remove any fallen foods. Spills from bird feeders, bones in your compost, and easily accessible sources of water also make your yard more attractive, so get rid of them.

There are also a number of skunk repellents that will keep them from moving into your yard. While it may not be possible to get consistent results, bright lights and automatic sprinklers will usually keep skunks away. Alternatively, commercial and homemade repellents may also be effective. Pepper sprays work well but must be applied regularly to maintain their effectiveness. Similarly, commercial repellents that can be sprayed around your yard will provide some protection. Finally, skunk barriers are also useful from preventing skunks from entering your yard. Skunks cannot climb or jump well, but will fit through openings as small as 4 inches, so barriers must be well constructed.

How to Get Rid of a Skunk

If you are dealing with a skunk that is already living in your yard, it is time to find its den. It is best to do this work at night when the skunk is out foraging in order to avoid being sprayed or bitten by the skunk. Seal up the entrance to the den with whatever you have available, keeping in mind that skunks need only a small opening. You can also wet the skunk den with a hose, as skunks do not like a wet habitat. Similarly, you can spray the den with pepper spray or a commercial repellent to encourage the skunk to leave. If these less invasive methods are not effective, you may want to get your hands on some skunk traps. Box skunk traps are small enough that the skunk cannot spray effectively. These traps should be baited with odorous foods such as sardines, tuna, or canned cat food. Once trapped, you should call animal control to collect and remove the skunk.

Animals Have Souls - They Are The Essence Of Pure Love!

The subject of animals having souls is cause for great debate for religions and individuals. Yet, if you have ever had a close relationship with an animal you know they have emotions and a soul. I have seen animals rescue humans and other animals. I have seen animals cry over the death of their beloved master or the loss of one of their own kind. I have seen mother animals care and nurture their children.

Many of you know that I have traveled into spirit countless times and I do see animals throughout the spiritual kingdom. So if you wonder if you will be reunited with your beloved pet the answer is YES.

If you have faith you will understand that these beautiful souls exist to show us an example of pure love and the power of the Divine. When they pass they go directly into spirit without any delays because of their purity.

When I was a young woman I had a marvelous and incredibly intelligent parakeet named Tweety. I was hospitalized for one month and during that time Tweety stayed in my parents' home. When I returned from the hospital and went up to the cage Tweety started crying. My mother exclaimed, "I have never seen a bird cry."

I had a dog, Lady, that had to stay with my parents when I traveled and she would lay by the front door waiting for my return, and not move except when they picked her up or when I would telephone and talk to her. My mother said Lady listened intently to every word I said and then went back to the front door.

My precious cat Isis woke me up and spoke to me in clear precise English and told me about a robber in our house.

I fell down and could not get back up and my little dog Julia laid right next to me until help came. She knew that I was in danger and she wanted to be a comfort to me. So we cuddled and I felt that magical LOVE energy between us that transcends all barriers and makes words unneeded. Thank you God for this miraculous experience.

Lady died in 1987 yet, in the year 2004 I saw her walking through a hallway in an apartment I had rented far away from where we had lived. It was as though she was looking at where I was and making sure I was okay even now.

I have a girlfriend whose puppy dachshund Kassidy and I talk regularly on the telephone. Kassidy cries until the phone is placed next to her ear and I ask her about her day and talk about different things. I talk with her about my admiration for her and her immense beauty and our ONENESS and we just share a long moment of LOVE that makes me laugh in JOY. Then she kisses the phone. You will note I said 'with' her, not 'to' her.

Recently I was a guest on a radio program and the host did energy vibrational healing at the end of the program. My girlfriend was listening to the program with Kassidy who when she heard me her ears perked up and listened carefully. When the host started the energy healing she closed her eyes. When it finished she opened her eyes and yawned totally refreshed. Even dogs understand energy coming to them. There are many people who cannot receive energy like that.

Native Americans always considered animals sacred especially the Buffalo, the owl, the eagle, and the cougar. Whenever they killed an animal they made a ceremony and honored the spirit of the dead animal for all that it was giving them. Every part of the animal was used to extend the life of the people. Native Americans have felt that the spirit of an animal can guide them and that they can take on the spirit of the animal.

In India cows, elephants, monkeys and mice are considered sacred. The cows the most sacred because it gives milk, which nourishes life. Gandhi advocated no cruelty to animals.

Many cultures throughout the world consider animals to be sacred. This has been going on since the beginning of time. Of course not everyone believes this to be true. There is great insensitivity to those who cannot see the beauty of life in the eyes of an animal. The loyalty and love an animal can give is so precious and their souls are precious to the Great Divine Spirit.

Not all precious pets are warm and furry. Here is a wonderful story from a friend of mine who told me about Alex, the pet box turtle her husband had when he was a boy. Alex had stubs for front feet and had no claws; however, he had survived for many years in the wild. When he lived with his human family, he taught himself how to go down the stairs, would warm himself by the fireplace. Alex also learned that he was to stay in his humans' room, as he would try to leave it sometimes, and be reminded of where he was suppose to be. He would turn around and go back into the room when directed to do so. He would also be quite the champion in turtle races as he would actually cut off the other turtles as a strategy to win.

He knew that he was taken care of and felt the kindness and safety of his adopted family
who loved him.

Just picture a whale in the ocean their beauty and majesty is beyond compare and the intelligence that is there has been proven by many personal accounts of those who encounter them. The same can be said for the intelligence of dolphins and the countless times they have helped humans.

I cannot prove to anyone that they have a soul and as do animals. I know that what ever we believe we carry with us into the next dimension. So if you believe animals have souls you will be surrounded by many wonderful creatures in the spirit world. If you do not believe, it will be a cold place without the love of the special creatures that were given to us as examples of purity of love.

EIFS - How Synthetic Stucco Can Cause Huge Damage to Homes Across America

IF you have EIFS on the exterior of your home, you likely have significant water damage all over your home and may not know anything about it.

The acronym "EIFS" stands for "Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems." Most people call it "stucco," although it's not true stucco. It's synthetic stucco. In this article, the terms EIFS, stucco and synthetic stucco will all be interchangeable.

There was an article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution on November 4, 2008 about Post Properties, headquartered in Atlanta. Post owns apartment complexes all across the USA. Post will spend $40 to $45 million dollars repairing over 11,000 apartments that have water damage due to improperly installed EIFS.

"This is a construction method that was prevalent in the 90s. We don't use it anymore," David Stockert, Post's CEO and president, told analysts Tuesday. Stockert also said that very little of the damage will be covered by insurance.

$45 million is just a drop in the bucket compared to the damages to single family homes across America that are covered with synthetic stucco.

Over the last twenty years, MILLIONS of single family homes were built using stucco as the exterior finish. Stucco looks great, is easy to install, has great energy-saving features and can be made to look like stone and other masonry finishes.

However, in my own experience as a claims adjuster, I've seen very little residential stucco that has been installed properly. Nearly every EIFS-clad house I've ever inspected had water, mold and termite damage behind the stucco. Sometimes the damage is so extensive that the houses have to be condemned and torn down.

I spent lots of time handling claims for Construction Defect liability that involved stucco. I don't know of any single building material that has been responsible for more builder bankruptcies in America than stucco. And, as the stucco product ages, more and more home damages are being discovered.

I remember inspecting a huge, three story wood framed, stucco exterior home in a golf course community in Athens, Georgia a few years ago. The owners discovered the damage when the wife walked over to a dining room bay window and her foot fell through the wood floor.

There was water damage on all four sides of the house, and around every door and window opening. Worse, the water behind the walls made the perfect breeding ground for termites that had been eating the house for a long time. The estimate I wrote was for $439,000, and the home was valued at about $500,000. The house was demolished and rebuilt on the foundations. The builder's liability insurance paid the claim. The new house DID NOT have a stucco exterior.

EIFS manufacturers issue shop drawings that builders are supposed to use when installing EIFS. They specify that flashing must be used around ANY door or window opening. "Flashing" are formed metal pieces that keep the water from getting behind the stucco. But in millions of homes, the builder simply butts the stucco up against the outside of the window or door, smears on the stucco finish, and seals the joint with caulking. It saves installation time and the cost of the flashing.

It doesn't take too many months for exterior caulking to crack and separate. Once that happens, water gets behind the stucco every time it rains.

So, when water gets behind EIFS, it gets trapped. Lots of homes have a layer of "housewrap," or plastic sheeting as a vapor barrier under the stucco. But vapor barriers that keep moisture out also keep moisture in. When water gets trapped behind the EIFS, it creates the perfect habitat for termites...food and water. They'll stay until the food and water run out.

Termites can destroy a home unprotected by pesticides. However, termites can also damage or destroy a protected home. Termites only need THREE THINGS TO THRIVE:
1. Access...a way to get in.
2. Moisture to drink.
3. Food...which in an average house is wood. Walls, floors, plywood, trim, windows, doors...all wood products are on the termites' menu.

The other big problem for stucco is that builders ran the product down the side of the exterior wall and then landscaped up to it. Stucco that comes into contact with the ground makes it super easy for termites to invade without detection.

Why am I telling you this about your stucco-covered home? Because your damage will likely NOT be covered by your homeowners insurance policy. Wet Rot is excluded in your homeowners policy. The standard HO-3 policy also has exclusions for damage caused by insects. The policy also excludes damage caused by mold and mildew, commonly found where the water damage is.

I urge you to have a home inspector or contractor inspect your home. Look carefully at the outside trim around your doors and windows. If you cannot easily see a metal flashing between the stucco and the door or window trim, your stucco was improperly installed by the builder. The chances are overwhelming that you have interior water damage all over your home.

The final insult is that you likely can't sell your home without making the repairs first.

If you find damage, and your insurance company denies coverage for your damages, you'll have to notify the builder who built your home that you're making a claim against his Liability insurance policy. I recommend that you consult an attorney as you begin the process.

EIFS, improperly installed on ANY building, causes nothing but nightmares and financial ruin. Don't be a victim...find out your rights and fight hard!
