Science and Innovation at the No Barriers Summit

www.nobarriersusa.org This video highlights the science and innovation at the No Barriers Summit 2011 in Winter Park, Colorado. The high-tech presentations gave our audience a taste of the revolutionary changes on the horizon. For instance, Maysam Ghovanloo, Ph.D., Director of Georgia Tech-Bionics Lab, demonstrated the tongue drive system which uses the free motion of the tongue to allow people with high-level disability to control wheelchairs and operate computers using a headband sensor and a magnet on the tip of the tongue. As amazing as that was, most of the kids and families were more impressed by the next presentation starring Kandu, the adorable little dog who was born without front legs and who pushes himself around on a wheeled cart. Kandu was part of a panel designed around pet prosthetics called "To Wheel or Not to Wheel." Ultimately, all the innovators come together to support those who are working to redefine their capabilities and seek the means by which they can overcome their challenges.
