Dog Gate - Building Your Own Dog Gate

Dogs are such lovable animals. They are, indeed, man's best friend. But they can become messy and can really create havoc inside your house when left on their own. This is where a dog gate can be of use. There are many types of gates that you can buy in the market today. Their prices range from low to expensive. The most ingenious way is to create your own which only entails simple, easy steps.

Gather the Materials

Like any other project, the first thing that you are going to do is to gather the necessary materials. First, you need to purchase two pieces of PVC pipe. Be sure that it measures four inches less than the width of your doorway. Then, you need to buy two pieces of PVC pipe; the height of which vary according to your specific needs. Buying PVC pipes is not a problem at all because you can find them almost anywhere. But before you go out buying one, you need to measure the doorway where you are going to put the gate.

Be sure that you have a PVC pipe cutter for cutting PVC to their exact measurement. On top of that, you need to have 4 90-degree PVC pipe corners, cable ties and mesh as well as screen or cloth whichever you prefer.

Make the Frame

With the use of your PVC cutter, cut the PVC pipes according to your specifications and lengths. Apply the 4 90-degree PVC corners to connect them and make the frame for the gate. Then, fit your mesh cloth or wire screen inside the frame and secure them with cable ties.

Secure the Gate

Now, it is time to put the gate in the doorway. There are at least three ways to secure your gate. If your frame is small enough, you can use hinges, like the ones used for chain-link fences, to secure it to the door frame. Another way is by using cable ties or rope to tie the gate in place. This will allow you to remove the gate every now and then or as long as you want the gate to stay in place.

The third way is by using the spring-loaded shower curtain rods and T-corners instead of the 90-degree corners. The curtain rods will hold the gate in the doorway while the T-corners will allow you to insert the rods through the pipe at the bottom and top of the gate making secure.

The steps mentioned above are simply easy. With a little effort, you can make your pet safe and secure.
